DESIGN; A Game of Perception, A Game of Belief

“Creative, Artistic, Unconventional” These are the few words which come flying to me when I introduce myself as a designer. People think designers have this tiny brain where creativity is stored in an unbounded way. True, it is there and it is what, which makes us different from normal beings. But then that’s not all, a designer is a lot more and design is much more than what it visually appears.

To be a designer is a journey in itself. I feel its starts from being crazy, from visualizing everything around in the form of lines, dots, shapes, layouts and ignoring the people who think us to be maniac. Well, designing is a game of brain and heart, it is an art of visual communication and a journey of self-discovery.

Being a designer is a matter of persistence and patience. While designing for different projects, you evolve as a person. You not only become a lateral thinker but also grow to be a good decision maker. Every project that I undertake feels like a new challenge in life. It keeps me on my toes and my brain on active mode. I start with defining the challenge and market research and then get on to brainstorming considering thousands of variables that hang around in the environment.

This profession has no rules and no limits. There is no one fit for all and therefore you can go as creative as possible and come up with as many solutions as you can think. Designing teaches you to keep going, it only requires brainstorming, freedom, and zeal.

I clearly remember the first class of college when the teacher asked us, “What does design mean to you?” and the answers given by us were so distinct. Some said visuals, some stood up to speak “it’s all about the idea” and others responded by saying fundamental. I was under the worst category of “no answer” and actually thought how can same thing means so different from the same set or age group of people.

Years later, I have not only figured out my answer but also understood that the beauty of design lies in different beliefs. It’s a game of varying perceptions. What design mean and appear to you may not mean and appear the same to others. It can mean whatever you want it to mean to you.

For me, designing is a way of living. It’s a behavior, it is boundless and a passion in me that empowers me to give the world more practical and beautiful creations.

Tell me, what does it mean to you now?
